You can use Whitespark local citation finder to analyze your competitors local and niche citations. That is mentions of their businesses. Some of the citations will link out to your competitors and some won’t. Building a list of good citations is important. The best method in which to do this is using Whitespark to analyze your top ranking competitors. Then you start submitting your business to the best local directories and platforms that are revealed in the Whitespark report. This list is gold. Afteyou get this list together and have submitted to the best 60 that your competitors are taking advantage of. Find other decent citations they have missed. You can search Google for lists of citations for free. Everything I mentioned above can be done cheaply or for free. It takes a little while to learn how to use Whitespark and it is very time consuming to do all of your submissions yourself. 10 to 15 minutes per submission for someone who know what they are doing. You also need to be very careful. You do not want to mess up your submissions by choosing weak directories or worse by not keeping your information consistent. It is very important to create a GMB (Google My Business)page in local seo. It is crucial for ranking in the Google 3 pack. ( Formerly 7 pack) Also formerly known as Google Places . The name change from the 7 to the 3 pack is simple. Google used to display 7 listings in this property located under Google’s paid advertising (Adwords) and above the organic search results. Your business will not show up unless you have created your GMB profile. This is very important. I will be discussing this further in the future but for now we will have a brief discussion followed with links to an in depth tutorial on this subject. Things to do when creating your GMB account: Use images relevant to your business Optimize your GMB images: Title your images using some of your keywords or variations of your keywords. Use alt text on your images also using keywords and variations of your keywords. Fill out your profile completely (Think profile, NAP, images, informative posts) This is your most important social media account when it comes to ranking your business on Google and the rest. There are two strategies of getting social signals to your website. The first strategy is create your own accounts. This is a must in this day and age. Otherwise your web presence does not look natural to Google. You don’t necessarily have to promote these profiles actively but they should exist and you should post on them every now and then. The Social media accounts your business should not do without – GMB (Google My Business). Formerly known as Google Places and before that Google Maps, Now Google Maps is it’s answer to MapQuest. GMB is what is responsible for you to rank in the Google 3 Pack. This used to be called the 7 pack because they used to list 7 websites along with reviews addresses or Phone numbers with a map indicator for some of the listings. Now there are 3 listings and they are located underneath Google’s paid ads (Adwords) and on top of the Google organic search results. GMB is crucial to your business. You should also set up Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Bing Places. These are the least you should set up. It would be a good idea to add Pinterest, Tumblr and others depending on the nature of your business. The other way of getting social signals. Advertise on other peoples accounts.
